Reading ABC Science Online, I found this interesting article about how beer yeast can “smell” land-mines. Well, in fact, they managed to modify yeast cells in such a way, they now turn green once they sense dinitrotoluene. DNT is used to make TNT, which is an ingredient in land-mines.
Now we can say our so beloved beer can definitely do something for humanity… other than pairing ugly people.
